Carolyn S (Simpson) Addy

   Carolyn S. Addy, age 83, of Tappan Lake died Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Community Hospice House, New Philadelphia. 

   Born August 28, 1931, in Belmont County, she was a daughter of the late William T. Simpson and Mary Margaret Pollock Simpson. She was a graduate of St. Clairsville High School and Kent State University. She taught elementary school for 27 years at Scio, Cadiz, and Hopedale. She and her husband, Harold, raised beef cattle and sheep on their Stock Township farm for over 50 years. She also served on the Harrison County Board of Elections for over 10 years.

   Carolyn was a member of Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, Kent State Alumni Association, Harrison County Farm Bureau, and the Harrison County Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Harrison County Republican Central Committee. 

   Carolyn married Harold Addy on Dec. 6, 1952, and their family included three children, a son Harold E. "Gene" Addy Jr. and his wife, Suneeti, of Cleveland Heights, daughter Martha Shelby and her husband, Steve, of Hamilton; their oldest daughter Sarah Rogers preceded her in death in 2005. Also surviving are grandchildren Amanda and Garrett Shelby of Hamilton; a brother, Richard Simpson of Pickerington; and two sisters, Grace Clements of Encinitas, California, and Mary Jo McCoy, of Tappan Lake. 

   Services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Church, 35500 Cadiz-Dennison Rd., Scio (Tappan Lake). Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home in Scio or Saturday at Pleasant Valley Church from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Valley Church c/o Linda Kelley, 87995 Buxton Rd., Scio 43988 or to the Wounded Warrior Project (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
