Dorothy L Yoss Nicholson

March 15, 1920 ~ April 23, 2015 (age 95) 95 Years Old


   Dorothy (Haynes) Yoss Nicholson, 95, formerly of Scio, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 23rd, 2015 at Park Village Healthcare Center after a period of declining health.   Born on March 15, 1920 in Mingo Junction, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Edna (Stillwell) Haynes.

   In 1979, after 23 years of employment, Dorothy retired from Scio Pottery and moved to Florida, where she resided for the next 23 years.  She loved her Florida retirement where she stayed active playing golf, volunteering at church and socializing with all the friends she made there.

   Dorothy married James Yoss, Sr. in September of 1939 whom she enjoyed 48 years of marriage with before his passing in 1980.  They are survived by their son, James Yoss, Jr. of Scio, their daughter Kay (Pete) Applegarth of New Philadelphia and a daughter-in-law Jean Yoss of Scio; grandchildren, Annette (Kellen) Wilkes, James (Claudia) Bolitho, Robert (Julie) Bolitho, Jim Yoss, Kathy (Jeff) Brindley, Kim (Gabe) Fincher, Brenda (Allen) Booth, Bonnie (Barry) Ankrom, Nancy Yoss and Becky Yoss; 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandsons complete the family.

   In addition to her parents and first husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her second husband, Frank Nicholson, whom she married in 1987 and enjoyed 9 years of marriage with; daughter Thelma Bolitho; son Charles “Edward” Yoss; daughter-in-law Lynn Yoss; and 7 siblings, Charles (Bud), Roy (Junior), William, Ronald and Shirley Haynes; Edna Mae Manbeck, and Pauline Stackhouse.

   Her family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the entire staff of Park Village Healthcare Center for their compassionate longtime care of Dorothy. 

   Services will be held Monday at 11 am in Koch Funeral Home, Scio with Rev. Jack Visser officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Colerain. Friends may call Sunday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia 44663.
