John L Ferguson

   John L. Ferguson, age 85, of Deersville passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in New Dawn Health Care Center, Dover after a lengthy illness.

   A lifelong resident of Deersville John was born on October 18, 1929 to the late Howard and Margarete Stevens Ferguson. He retired in 1991 from Stocker Concrete in Gnadenhutten where he never missed a day of work in over 40 years of service. He also owned and operated Ferguson Backhoe Service. John was a proud resident of Deersville and served as a former mayor and was a member of Deersville VFD. He was also a member of the Teamsters Local 92 in Canton.  He enjoyed working, fishing and taking his antique car to car shows.

   John was preceded in death by his first wife Erma E. Devore Ferguson in 1991, they married in 1950; his second wife Bernice M. Shephard Ferguson in 2002, they married in 1992; two sons Dan and John Ferguson; a grandson Robert Ray Ferguson and an infant sister.

   Surviving are children Randy L. (Pam) Ferguson of Tippecanoe, Linda C. (Rick) Abel of Coshocton and Thomas H. (Susy) Ferguson of Deersville; grandchildren Shawn (Brad) Kellar, Chad (Michelle) Ferguson, Jamie (Matt) Zimmerman, Josh Ferguson, Luke Ferguson, Desmond Abel, Jenny Ferguson, Michael (Merissa) Ferguson, Ray (Kelley) Bailey, James (Sheena) Ferguson, Latasha, Mary and Sara Abel; brothers Harold (Marie) Ferguson of Stillwater, Delmar (Erma) Ferguson of Byesville and Kenny Ferguson of West Virginia; four step children Becky, Bob, Gene and Wayne and fourteen great grandchildren.

   Services will be held Saturday at 12:00 pm in Koch Funeral Home, Scio with John’s brother Delmar Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Patterson Union Cemetery, Deersville. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 10 am to 12 pm at the funeral home.
