Richard Warren Bernhardt, age 74, of Oakland Park, FL passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015 in Holy Cross Hospital, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Born September 28, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY he was a son of the late Louis and Arlene Lapata Bernhardt. He always loved the beach and grew up as one of the “Barefoot Boys from Wolfe’s Pond Park” on Staten Island. He moved to Florida in 1970 and started working for Publix’s grocery store where he rose through the ranks to become a store manager and retired in 2008.
Richard was a member of the Calvary Chapel in Ft. Lauderdale. He enjoyed putting puzzles together, collecting stamps and going to auctions to buy antiques, especially toy firetrucks.
Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Gloria Jean Goodrich Bernhardt, who he married May 26, 1994.; two daughters Ronda Nguyen and Randi Sims both of Florida; three step-sons Joe, John and Eric Harrison all of Scio; six grandchildren Cara, Kelcie, Robert, Brandon, Evan and Haley; a brother Lawrence Bernhardt of NY and a sister Arlene Currie of NJ. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Bernhardt.
Services will be held Saturday at noon in Koch Funeral Home, Scio with Rev. Jack Visser officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Jewett. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 11 am – noon.
