Robert Scott English

   Robert Scott English, age 82, of Scio passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia surrounded by his loving family.

   Born October 8, 1932 in Conotton he was a son of the late Melvin R. English and Pearl Scott English. He graduated from Scio High School in 1950 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Ohio University in 1954. After graduating he was employed at Lazarus in Columbus for 17 years. In 1971, he and his family moved back to Scio, taking ownership of his father-in-law’s businesses, the Scio Wholesale Barn and Scio Pottery Sales, which he and his wife Katie owned and operated for 40 years.

   Bob had a wonderful voice and was a member of the Society for Preservation of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. He sang with The Singing Buckeyes and The Capitol Lads Quartet while he lived in Columbus. When he moved to Scio he joined the Dining Fork Ruritans where he served as a past president and the Scio F&AM Lodge #587 where he was a former worshipful master. He was also a member of the Scio Civic Club and Hanover United Methodist Church. He was president of the Puskarich Public Library when they built their current building and served as a former Republican Committee Chairperson for Harrison County.

   Surviving are his wife Kathryn E. “Katie” English who he married June 20, 1954; children Cynthia (Tom) Spiker of Scio, Patricia (Richard) Rose of Canton, Scott (Abbie) English of Massillon and Jim (Myla) English of Scio; grandchildren Josh, Joy, Adam, Susan, Stacy, Richard, Rachel, Kimberly, Danielle, Greg, Rebecca and Jonathan; great grandchildren Elijah, Emory, Logan, Lucas, Layne, Noah, Sayje, William, Connor, Carter, Sam, Jacy, Riley, Rorey and Payton; sister’s Betty Stamm of Florida, Jane Nusbaum of Arizona and Sue Page of Apple Creek.

   Services will be held at Hanover United Methodist Church Friday at 11 am with Pastor Mike Cunningham officiating.  Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 pm at Koch Funeral Home, Scio where a Masonic Service will be held at 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice House, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, OH  44663.
