Ronald Given Obituary

Ronald Lee Given, age 69, of 89420 Cemetery Road, Scio was pronounced dead at 5:52 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at his home.

Born October 1, 1954 in Dennison, Ohio; he was a son of the late Donald Eugene Given and Norma Jean (Slaven) Hites and his step-dad, Elliott “Red” Hites.

He left high school at the age of seventeen and joined the Navy during the Viet-Nam War. He was honorably discharged and received his GED while in the Navy.

He attended Pittsburgh Mortuary School and worked for Purviance Funeral Home in Scio before moving to Las Vegas to be the General Manager of the Hites Funeral Home in 2000 which was owned by his mother and stepdad. He returned to the Scio area in 2012.

He was a member of the Scio American Legion Post #482 and the Hopedale Legion. He liked to garden, especially growing tomatoes and harvesting peaches from his peach tree.

He is survived by four sons: Robert (Tabitha) Given of Uhrichsville, Aaron (Yesenia) Given of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ryan (MacKenzie) Given of Bridgeport, and Ron Lee Given of St. Clairsville; five grandchildren: Jeremy, Shiloh, Aaron Jr., Ace, and Alexander Jack; two sisters: Donna Jean Chrisman of New Philadelphia and Lorie Metzker of Reno, Nevada; and three step-siblings: Gary (Julie) Hites, Larry (Carrie) Hites, and Kelli Chojnacki.

In addition to his parents and stepdad, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robbie Given in 1968 and a brother, Terry Hites. 

Military graveside honors will be performed by the Scio American Legion, Post # 482 at a later date in Grandview Cemetery, Scio.
