Barbara A Grimes

   Barbara A. Grimes, age 60, of Amsterdam, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous 2 ½ year battle with cancer.

   Born March 9, 1959 in Steubenville she was a daughter of the late William H. Vint and Dorothy V. Fowler Vint. She had worked for SS&E Laundry in Carrollton for 12 years and Dutch’s Roadside in Amsterdam.

   Barbara was a social member of the Amsterdam VFW Post 232. She was an accomplished darts player and played for numerous Amsterdam area teams. She won area ladies division’s titles numerous times and one year even won the state dart league championship in Canton. She also loved to cook and was well known for her delicious meat loaf. But what she will most fondly be remembered for was her devotion to those in need. She could always be counted on to organize area benefits or raise money for the Relay for Life on the Fighting Eagles Post 232 Team.  

   Surviving are her husband Robert E. Grimes, whom she married April 3, 1982; children Christopher (Beth) Day of Alliance and Kevin Grimes, Randy (Autumn) Grimes and Jody (Robert Fankhauser) Grimes all of Amsterdam; grandchildren Megan Grimes, Skylar and Olivia Fankhauser, Sydney Day, Aubrey Grimes and Mariah Biehl, whom she considered a granddaughter; siblings Jim Vint of Gerrard, Wayne Vint of Georgia, William H. Vint, Jr of Amsterdam, Willard “Ike” Vint of Wolf’s Run, Mary Dinger and Irene Kohler of Amsterdam and Linda Vint of Kilgore; a sister-in-law Connie Vint of Amsterdam and numerous nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by brothers Richard and Harry Vint, a sister Shirley Gallagher and a nephew Fred Vint.

   In keeping with her wishes she will be cremated. be A memorial service celebrating her life will Sunday, September 29, 2019 from 2-5 pm at the Amsterdam VFW Post 232 and a benefit will be held Saturday, October 19,2019 from 12-5 pm also at the Amsterdam VFW. She deeply appreciated her family members and everyone that brought her food or helped in any way during her hard fought battle with cancer including the staff at Community Hospice. Koch Funeral Home, Scio has been entrusted with her arrangements.
