D Steven Reese Obituary

Don Steven Reese, age 66, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022 at his home near Bowerston after living with Parkinson’s disease for seven years. Born October 10, 1955, he was a son of the late Richard Scott “Dick” Reese and Carol Jane Garver Reese.

Steve graduated from Jewett-Scio High School in 1974 and attended Ashland College. He proudly worked alongside his father at the Scio Pottery where he learned the plant operations and became the company VP. In 1994, still having that entrepreneurial spirit, he along with colleagues started the Scio Packaging Company which he operated with his brother Chris and family. He humbly served as President of the company until retiring in 2016.

Steve was very civic minded, belonging to the Conotton Creek Trail Committee, where he was caretaker and builder of the bluebird houses. He and his wife Lorraine were proud to donate The Scio Pottery Covered Bridge located near Scio on the trail. Steve was a member of the Sons of the Scio American Legion Post #482, the Atwood Yacht Club and the former Scio Civic Club, where he had served as a past president. He was a former member of the Caroll County recycling committee and enjoyed being involved with the former Cantatas and the Bethlehem Walk at the Scio United Methodist Church, where he had been a member.

He is survived by the love of his life and best friend Lorraine A. Sogan Reese whom he married on February 16th, 1980. Engaged after only three weeks of dating, they were married for almost 43 years. He is also survived by his son Dustin (Heather) Reese, and grandchildren Estella, Eloise, and Penelope; his daughter Kelly Reese (Matthew) Bettinazzi, and grandchildren Lucia and Sebastian; his son Derek Reese; and his brother Christopher (Cathy) Reese and sisters-in-law Christina Reese and Carleen (Jim) Fodor; along with nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Douglas S. Reese.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Thursday, January 13th, 2022 at 5pm at the Scio United Methodist Church, 117 Maple Ave, Scio, with Pastor Mark Statler officiating. A dinner at the Scio American Legion will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Conotton Creek Trail Committee, 90151 Kilgore Ridge Rd, Scio, Ohio  43988. Koch Funeral Home, Scio has been entrusted with his arrangements.
