Gilbert "Gib" Albright Obituary

Gilbert “Gib” Ray Albright, 86, formerly of Scio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on November 21, 2022 in Lewis Center, Ohio. He was the son of the late Edward “Bud” and Ruth Vankirk Albright.  He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Henrietta,, brother (Harry Albright), brother in laws (Milton “Bud” Holle and Merle Stull), mother and father-in-law (Henry and Cora Holle).

He is survived by his son Mike (Donna) Albright, daughter Deanna (Rick) Michalowski. sisters: Audrey Stull and Connie (Rex) Felgenhauer, sisters-in-law: MaryKay Holle and Sylvia Albright.  Grandchildren: Andrew (Kaci) Payne, Rachel (Chris) Ward, Matthew Payne, Hannah (Lee) Bullock, Cora Payne. Great Grandchildren: Emilia Kathryn Payne, Allison Rae Ward & Asher Finch Payne. Faithful companion/therapy dog Mr. Chumlee.

Born on March 5, 1936 in Harrison County, Ohio. Raised in Bowerston and a 1954 graduate from Conotton Valley where he proudly wore the # 11 as he played football, basketball and baseball.   On June 3, 1956 he married the love of his life Henrietta Nan Holle and they attended Scio Methodist Church.

In Scio, Gib worked at the Scio Pottery, volunteered with Scio VFD, and later became a bus driver, custodian and basketball coach at Scio School until 1969. He attended hotel/motel hospitality training in Florida and moved to Central Ohio where he worked in restaurant management, owned his own restaurant, and later became a plant manager.

After retirement, Gib enjoyed spending time in his cherished therapy dog Mr. Chumlee, working in his flower garden, playing solitaire on his tablet, watching Ohio State football, basketball and horse races and volunteering in the local school cafeteria.

He was a hardworking Christian husband, father, son, brother and friend with strong character, integrity, compassion and loyalty. These qualities combined with his optimistic, fun-loving, yet ornery sense of humor made it easy to call him friend.

Gib will always be remembered by his playful spirit and positive outlook on life. As well as, his typical responses to simple questions such as: “How are you feeling today?”   His reply would always be “with my hands” or “finer than frog hairs split two ways”,  and by his favorite saying, “Every day is good, just some are better than others”.

Visitation will be held at Koch Funeral Home in Scio on Friday, December 2nd from 12:30 -2:00pm prior to services at 2:00pm with Rev. Bill Canfield officiating. Burial will follow at Conotton Cemetery.
