Sgt. Paul Douglas Howell, age 65, of Scio, passed away suddenly, Friday, May 14, 2021 in Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz.
Born April 29, 1956 in Dennison he was a son of the late Wanda Orr Howell. Paul honorably served his country in the US Navy and in law enforcement for over 40 years. Paul started as a police officer in Tuscarawas County then worked as a deputy for the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and was currently a sergeant at the Cadiz Police Dept. He was the first qualified sniper in Harrison County and was also a Taser and Range Officer that qualified other officers in those disciplines.
Paul had been a member of the Asbury Chapel. He was a proud Republican and was a member of the NRA. He taught himself how to play the banjo and had a “green thumb” when it came to caring for plants. But what he loved most was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife Bonnie Jo Ferguson Howell, whom he married August 3, 1998; sons Jason Paul (Connie) Howell of Holloway, Adam Howell of Scio, Erik (Ashly) Ferguson of Scio, Zachary Howell of the home and Jeffrey Howell of Missouri; grandchildren Gabriella Howell and Aiden and Hanleigh Ferguson and a brother-in-law Roger Holcomb of New Philadelphia.
He was preceded in death by a grandson Aadio Ferguson and a sister Abby Holcomb.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 7 pm at RJ Spiker Firehall, 318 W Main St, Scio, with Pastor Mark Smith officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 pm prior to the service at the firehall . Memorial contributions may be made to Bonnie Howell, 38910 Tappan-Scio Rd, Scio, OH 43988 to help with expenses. Koch Funeral Home, Scio has been entrusted with his arrangements.
