Charles L. "Mick" Simms
Charles L. "Mick" Simms, age 90, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at his home near Scio surrounded by his loving family. Born August 22, 1933, in Harrison County he was a son of the late Charles Simms and Esther Grimes Simms.
Mick honorably served his country in the Marines during the Korean War and worked many years for R&F Coal Co. loading barges. Mick was also a carpenter and accomplished woodworker, making clocks, and crafts alongside his wife, Glenna, who would decorate his cutouts. They sold their crafts at numerous area craft shows in Tuscarawas and Harrison counties. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia Nazarene Church.
Surviving is his wife of 43 years, Glenna Plumley Simms; a daughter Sherry (Ernie) Manfield of Cadiz; a son Gary Simms of Shadyside; stepchildren Sandy (Steve) Chesla of Jewett, Randy (Sherry) Williamson of Cadiz, Mark (Janice) Willamson of New Philadelphia, Dennis (Therese) Williamson of AZ and Phillip (Rosie) Williamson of Bowerston; a brother Gary (Amanda) Simms of FL and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons Terry and Larry Simms, a stepson Jack Williamson and brothers Chester and Jerry Simms.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 11:00 am in Conotton Cemetery with Pastor Allen Hill officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio's Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663. Koch Funeral Home, Scio has been entrusted with his arrangements.
