Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Danny L. Henry, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and lifelong public servant, who passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, at the age of 73, following a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Danny was a proud graduate of Scio High School, Class of 1970, and a United States Army veteran having served in Vietnam who continued his dedication to service throughout his life. He was a 30-year member of Scio American Legion Post 482 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), honoring his country and fellow veterans with unwavering pride.

Danny spent his career committed to the betterment of his community. He worked for the family business, Henry Construction for 35 years and later for the Harrison County Highway Department, retiring in 2023. His leadership was evident in every role he took on, including serving as North Township Trustee beginning January 1, 1998, while also serving in the role of President of the Harrison County Township Association until his passing.

A respected and active community leader, Danny was a 52-year member of the Scio Volunteer Fire Department serving 16 years as Fire Chief and was a member of the Scio Dining Fork Ruritan Club for 29 years, including four years as President. He was honored as the Scio Dining Fork Citizen of the Year in 2001 for his dedication and service to the community he loved.

Danny is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Deb Henry; his son, Scott (Jodi) Henry of New Rumley; his daughter, Brandi (Luke) Simmons of Kilgore; and his cherished grandsons, Zack Henry, Carter Simmons, and Connor Simmons. He is also survived by his brothers, Gary (Jill) Henry and Ron (Susan) Henry; and his sister, Marcia Trushell and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Keith and Cleta (Shafer) Henry; his mother-in-law, Betty Stull Hurl; father-in-law, Bernard Cline; and sister-in-law, Kathy Morris.

Danny's impact on his community, his family, and all who knew him will be felt for generations. He lived his life with honor, humility, and heart and his legacy of service and kindness will never be forgotten.

Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Koch Funeral Home, 101 W Main St, Scio from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a memorial service to celebrate Danny's life beginning at 3:00 p.m. Military honors will be presented by the Scio American Legion Post 482.
