Obituary

Fred Robert Guthrie, age 88, of 87255 Dodson Road, Scio died peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

Born October 16, 1935, at the family home in Center Unity, he was a son of the late Fred Alexander Guthrie and Mary R. Gamble Guthrie.

Fred was a graduate of the Jewett High School class of 1953. He was employed by Cravat Coal Company for many years and Miller Coal Company of Sugarcreek.  He was also a farmer and enjoyed operating his own farm. Fred was a huge fan of NASCAR racing and traveled to many tracks with family and friends. He also enjoyed it when friends from Ohio, Alabama, Texas, and Florida would gather at the Guthrie farm for deer season.

He was a 50+ year member of the Harrison Masonic Lodge #219, a 50+ year member of the Steubenville Scottish Rite, and belonged to the Osiris Shrine in Triadelphia, West Virginia.

In addition to his parents, Fred was also preceded in death by his wife, Mariam Walker Guthrie, his sister, Theodora Guthrie, his brother, Keith Guthrie and stepdaughter, Mary Bower.

Surviving Fred is a daughter, Dianna Hart of Gnadenhutten; two sons, Greg (Rhonda) Guthrie of Scio and Frederick (Angella Hess) Guthrie of Powhatan Point, nine grandchildren:  Adrean Thompson, Jacob (Jaimie) Davenport, Brooke Davenport, Bethany (John Calhoun) Passmore and Matthew Guthrie, Tom Bower, Dan Bower, Kevin (Kiley Staley) Gladman, Summer (Trevor) Coffman, thirteen great-grandchildren: Trevor Thompson, Coby and Cameron Passmore, Presley and Owen Guthrie, Bexley Davenport, Lincoln, Jesse, and Douglas,  Ezekial and Ophelia Guthrie, Holten and Archer Coffman, and his loving companion, Lily Devore.

Fred's family would like to thank his caregivers Cris, Kelly, Linda, Amy and Bill, and the nurses and aides from SouthernCare Hospice for their dedication to his care.

Visitation will be held in Koch Funeral Home, 101 W Main St., Scio on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 6-9 pm with a Masonic Service being held at 5:45 pm. A funeral service will also be held in the funeral home on Saturday, August 24th at 10 am with Pastor David Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Colerain, Ohio. www.kochfuneral.com
