Obituary

If you ever crossed paths with Jim a.k.a. "Heavy" Yoss, you either encountered a grizzly bear or a teddy bear. He was born on September the 22nd, 1942 in Steubenville, Ohio. He passed on the morning of December 31st, 2023, peacefully in Union Hospital.

It's been said by many of men, that he was the best "dirt man" around.

He operated heavy equipment for 60 some years all over Ohio & West Virginia.

His boyhood dream was to make a living sitting at a steel guitar. As a man in his 80's, he spoke of having 20 head of cattle to move around.

He hunted elk & mule deer in the Idaho Mountains, gambled in Las Vegas, & traveled about the Eastern States to see & experience more than just the Hills of his raising.

His favorite past time was riding around on the local backroads looking for deer & seeing how the fields were growing. Probably singing along to his favorite song, "White Rose" written by Fred Eaglesmith while he did.

He enjoyed his breakfast out & about at whatever "choke & puke" had the best "B.S.'ers." He didn't much care for sloppy eggs.

He had to stand strongly at the graves of his father and mother, Jim and Dorothy Yoss, his sisters, Thelma and Kay, and his brother, Ed.

Sadly, over the past few years, he had to hear of the passing of many of his old buddies & pals.

The Love of his Life, this beloved wife, Lynn, passed on 18 years ago, 4 days before Christmas.

January the 5th would have been their 50th Anniversary.

Left here to share his stories & wisdom are his son, Jim, his grandson, Wyatt and his wife, Sydney, his great-grandson, Elliot, the mother of his grandson, Marsha, his sister-in-law, Jean, and his brothers-in-law, Pete, John, and Rick.

Along with 9 nieces and nephews, his buddies, George Berry and John Bates, who worked alongside Jim for many years, and his old pal Gene Busby.

By his wishes, no memorial or funeral will be held.
