Leonard D. Cooper, age 89, of Hopedale, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Weirton Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Born November 3, 1935, in Canton he was a son of the late VanDyke Leonard Cooper and Mildred Green Cooper. He attended Perrysville High School and then enlisted in the Air Force, where he honorably served his country in the Korean War. He was a hard worker all his life, Leonard worked at Ames Limestone Quarry, Myer Dairy Farm, Y&O #2 Coal Mine, Consol Oak Park Mine, Castle Shannon Golf Course and Jewett Hardware.

Leonard was a member of the Scio American Legion Post #482. A "jack of all trades", he was a self -taught carpenter and mechanic. He loved being outdoors whether it was working on the farm, driving a tractor, hunting rabbits, or more recently, just sitting on the swing on the porch watching the birds.

He was preceded in death by wives Mildred Jane Myer Cooper and Karen Sue Brewer Cooper, a sister Joyce Cooper Erwin and an infant brother Harold Cooper.

Surviving are children Cynthia (Brian) Hatfield of Carrollton, Rodney (Caralee) Cooper of Scio, Bruce (Kathy) Cooper of Pavillion, WY and Jason (Alexandra) Cooper of Gastonia, NC; long-time companion Shelby Dalrymple of Hopedale; step children James Dalrymple and Sharon (Joseph) Wright both of Amsterdam; a brother Paul Cooper of Carrollton; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and fur babies Blue and Daisy.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Monday, February 10, 2025, at 1 pm in Koch Funeral Home, 101 W Main St, Scio with Pastor Dixie Hendricks. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 11 am to 1 pm.
