Obituary

Samuel E. “Sam” Kerwood, age 76, of Scio, passed away Monday, March 16, 2026, in Aultman Hospital, Canton after a lengthy illness.

Born December 12, 1949, in Martins Ferry, Ohio he was a son of the late Ross E. Kerwood and Beatrice Raber Kerwood. A 1967 graduate from Jewett High School, Sam honorably served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He worked in the coal mines for Y&O Coal Company and was a member of the Scio American Legion Post 482. He truly loved any time he was able to spend with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife of 33 years Mary Jane “MJ” Miller Kerwood; daughters Lori Elaine Kerwood and Beth Ann (Chris) Hyre both of Cadiz and Tina (Paul) Rich of Perrysville; grandchildren Josh, Brady, Kylie and Kasey, a great granddaughter Araya; a great grandson David; a brother Charles; sisters Diana (Bob) Hilbert of Hanover and Dorothy Kerwood of Jewett, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers John, Craig, Rusty and Jerry Kerwood and sisters Beatrice Kerwood and Sara Goodrich.

Honoring his wishes he will be cremated with no services. He gave the gift of life by being an organ and tissue donor.
