IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley A
(Fowler) Copeland
September 20, 1937 – November 23, 2024
Shirley A. Copeland, formerly of Bowerston, passed peacefully into her Lord and Savior's arms in the early morning hours on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Claymont Health and Rehabilitation in Uhrichsville, after suffering a debilitating stroke on September 11, 2019.
Shirley was born September 20, 1937, in Tappan, Ohio, to the late Charles E and Ethel L. Fowler. She was a proud 1956 graduate of Scio High School, where she participated in band and was Head Majorette. She was Homecoming Queen her senior year, along with being a member of the National Thespian Society. On October 26, 1958, Shirley married George E. Copeland. They were married 64 years, until his passing on December 18, 2022. Shirley became a licensed cosmetologist and was employed many years in that profession at Sunnyslope Nursing Home in Bowerston, until illness forced her to change that position. Her love and compassion for the elderly led her to become the Activities Director at Sunnyslope for many years until her retirement. Shirley's selflessness often went unnoticed as every week she would go out of her way, on her own time, and do many things, including shopping, for the residents.
Shirley was a born-again believer, and faithfully read God's word daily, until her stroke. She was active in her church and enjoyed listening to gospel music, singing in the church choir and playing her piano at home, baking, playing cards and bus trips. Practically everyone who knew Shirley would comment that she was always "dressed to the nines"!
Shirley is survived by sons Jeff (Tammy) Copeland of Bowerston and Jim (Tricia) Copeland of Dennison, grandchildren Casey, Travis, Tia, Cyrus, Satchel and Anisa; great grandchildren Blayne, Karlie, Kiera, Kolby, Hunter, Hazel, Liam, Rowan, Lucy and Blaire; a brother Bob (Brenda) Fowler, a sister Carolyn (Dan) Boltz and brothers-in-law Don Goodrich and Dean Copeland.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a grandson Brent and sister Nancy Goodrich.
Services will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 2 pm in Koch Funeral Home, 101 W Main St Scio, with Pastor David Lee officiating. Burial will be in Longview Cemetery, Bowerston. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 12- 2 pm at the funeral home. www.kochfuneral.com
