Walter “Walt” Huhn, of Jewett, formerly of Cumberland and Byesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side on December 11, 2025, after a battle with cancer . Walt was a beloved husband, father, Pappaw, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, who left us far too soon. He was in the care of Valley Hospice of Toronto, specifically his special nurse Denise.
Born December 27, 1959, in Zanesville, Ohio he was a son of the late Ralph Huhn and Verna McGilton Huhn. He graduated in 1978 from John Glenn High School in New Concord, Ohio, while in school Walt enjoyed playing football and baseball. He was a member of the Church of God in Carrollton and a former member of the Church of Christ in Cambridge. Through the Stop 9 Church of Christ, he became a Cub Master Leader for Pack 542 and held various positions forover 20 years. Walt was an avid hunter, where he enjoyed sitting in the woods, not only waiting on the “big buck”, but also just sitting there reflecting on life and his blessings. He loved fishing and going out on the pontoon boat, watching his dog Mollie jump off the boat and swim. He was also a devoted Ohio State Buckeye’s and Cleveland Browns fan.
Welding wasn’t just his profession, it was his passion, The last few years he worked for Pennoniin Pennsylvania as an industrial structure inspector. Even though his time there was cut short,Walt loved his position at Pennoni, his job, meeting new people and making new friends. Before that Walt worked for 28 years at Ohio Bridge in Cambridge, Ohio, first as a welder then as a certified welding inspector.
On March 2, 2000. Walt met the love of his life, Connie, on a blind date, always saying “She had me at Hello!” They married on April 21, 2001, and began their life together with a blended family that include his children Kevin Michael (Shannon) Huhn of Zanesville, Kristen (fiancée Ben Harper) Kneisley of Byesville; step children Amber Horstman (Matt) Irwin of Medina,Matthew Christopher (Sammi) Horstman of Cambridge, Timothy William (Lexie) Gibbs ofByesville; adopted adult daughter Tashena (Gary) Shoup of Dalton and sisters Kim (Chris)McConnell, Pam (Tim) Jirles and Kathy McDougal all of Cambridge. Walt’s “greatest joys” weretheir 17 grandkids Arianna, Korbin, Andrew, Abbey, Zack “Zackee”, Jesse, Larkin, Olivia, Ava, Logan, Raven, Callie, Amiyah, Waylon, William, Tyler and Brayden, Abbey.
Preceding him in death are a son Joshua Dale Huhn, a brother Doug Huhn and brother-in-law Joe McDougal.
The family invites you to join them on December 27, 2025, from 2-4 at the Byesville Fire Dept, 212 Seneca Ave, Byesville, Ohio. Walt’s Celebration of Life on his birthday. Come casual,wearing Ohio State or Cleveland Browns attire to support his favorite teams. Bring your special memories and stories to share with his family and friends. Koch Funeral Home, Scio has been entrusted with his arrangements.
