Born July 31, 1935, in Berwick, Pennsylvania; a son of the late Andrew Butz and Stephanatus Perkoski Butz.

Al graduated from Berwick High School, then received a certificate in Applied Technology from Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana on May 31, 1959. He was a tool and die technician for General Motors Corporation in Indianapolis, Indiana and Lordstown, Ohio. Al was also blessed with his companions' family including three daughters: Cora Johnson, Rachel Artzner, and Rebecca Anich. Along with this came more blessings of four grandchildren: Joshua Johnson, David Johnson, Tabitha Beadnell, and a great-granddaughter, Michelle Anich.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
