Walter Delos Thompson, 77, passed away on August 18, 2025, at North Royalton Post Acute Care in North Royalton, Ohio.

Walter was born on November 1, 1947, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to the late John Howard and Elizabeth Mae (May) Thompson. At the age of 8, Walter survived a serious bicycle accident that left him in a coma for three months, an experience that marked him as a fighter who defied the odds early in life.

He attended Jewett High School and was an active and dedicated member of the Jewett Jaycees, where he once proudly served as President. Walter was also a faithful member of Mount Shiloh Baptist Church.

In the early 1990s, Walter began working at the Harrison Industries, Inc. Sheltered Workshop, where he was employed until 2014. He took great pride in his work, enjoyed mowing lawns and woodworking, and truly cherished the people he met along the way.

After relocating to Northeast Ohio in 2014, Walter never stopped reminiscing about his beloved hometown of Jewett, Ohio. He spoke often and fondly of the local gas station, the restaurant, and the many friends and neighbors he spent countless hours talking with. Known for his friendliness and vivid storytelling, Walter had an incredible memory and loved sharing stories about the past.

Walter is survived by his loving sisters, Patty (Raymond) of North Royalton, Ohio, and Linda Birney of New Philadelphia, Ohio; nephews Brad (Tammy) Thompson and Shad Gross; niece Sheri Gross; great-niece Beth (Robert); and great-nephews RJ and Kayden. He is also remembered fondly by many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mae Thompson, and his niece Alice Myer.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, August 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, 101 W Main St, Scio, Ohio. A funeral service will immediately follow, officiated by Mark Statler, with burial at Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Harrison Industries, Inc. – Sheltered Workshop, in memory of Walter.
