Shirley Colleen Wharton Bigler, age 90, of Jewett went home to her Lord and Savior Friday, July 22, 2022 at Valley Hospice, Steubenville.
She was born to the late William and Dora Wharton on August 26, 1931 in Belmont County; she grew-up in Kenwood before moving to Cadiz Junction. She graduated from Jewett High School in 1949 married the love of her life, Karl Edward Bigler, on April 15, 1950. After 70 years of marriage he passed away on April 4, 2021. Shirley was a cashier for many area grocery stores over the years, including Woods Food Center and the M&K Market both in Jewett.
A devoted member of the St James Lutheran Church in Jewett, Shirley shared her love and compassion through her talents as a cook and baker. She was especially know for her delicious pies and cookies, that she graciously providing for any benefit or family in need. She was also an avid reader and bowler, belonging to the Valie Lanes Bowling League for many years. Shirley also shared her talents as a singer who loved life, she could be heard humming and singing through the day.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are children Kathy (David) Shepherd of Jewett, Kim (Carolyn) Bigler of St Clairsville, Jeff Bigler of Akron and Gregory (Janie) Bigler of Berryville, VA; grandchildren Cassandra Elizabeth (Jonathan) Hape of Columbus, Eric Shepherd of Jewett, Emily (Carleton) Caldwell of Wadsworth, Megan (Andrew) Mercer of Orlando Fl and Leah Wilson of Front Royal, VA and great grandchildren Arrva and Georgia Caldwell and Drew Mercer III.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Fairview Cemetery, Jewett with Pastor Mark Statler officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to ETW True Heart Foundation, PO Box 92, Jewett, Ohio 43986. Koch Funeral Home, Scio has been entrusted with her arrangements.
